So I’m going to do something that every blogging how-to site says not to do. I’m going to change the name of my blog. GASP.
I’m just not feeling The Secret Life of the Stay At Home Wife anymore. I mean, it’s cute and all, but it’s such a mouthful to say (and to type). And there’s no way to make a good hashtag out of it because it’s too many words.
I’m going in a completely different direction. While browsing my own Instagram feed (@lindseywilderm), I noticed 99% of my pictures are of my babies. Duh. Of course they are. They’re my most prized possessions (she just called her kid a possession…), and I am forever following them around snapping photos of them.
Yes I’m a wife, but there is nothing secret about my life right now. That ship pretty much sailed once I started blogging and over-sharing every detail of my day to day life. Especially writing about the more taboo topics like depression… y’all, I’m an open book at this point. No secrets here.
The point is, I need a name that exemplifies what I’m about and what people can relate to (if I ever want to grow a following)—I think it’s fair to assume that most of the people that actually care enough to read the things I write are mommies with children or people that enjoy reading about what it’s like to have children. Or people with baby fever that like to live vicariously through people with babies. Fair assumption? I think so. Whether you live in the South or not, one thing we can all agree on is that I am pretty Southern. I dress my children in smocked clothing, always write thank-you notes, and can strike up a conversation with just about anyone willing to participate (or not– I can talk up a storm by myself). See? Up a storm. There’s a southernism right there.
That got me to thinking. It’s got to be short—think four words maximum. Hmmmm. What to name a blog about a mom that lives in the south and enjoys all things classic and southern. I came up with a couple of ideas, but the one I like the best is the Dixie Belle Mommy. Short, sweet, and to the point.
The Golden Retriever my granny had when I was growing up was named Dixie Belle. It’s so southern. So darling. So charming. I love it. Plus, I know it’s the right thing to do because my lucky number is 18, and this domain just happens to be $18/year. I can swing that right now. I’ll just skip chai tea lattes for a week. There. We’re golden.
I’m taking this and running with it. And probably changing the name of my Instagram (@thedixiebellemommy). I feel like I just got married, and now I have to go to the DMV to change my name on my driver’s license and passport and update all of my credit/debit cards. SO MUCH WORK. Some more first world problems.
And now, for your delight, here’s a picture of my little southern gentlemen, without whom none of this would be possible.
