February Boat Rides and the Top Knot

This crazy weather has had us outside a lot. Praise the Lord for a laid-back rotation for the hubs– or as laid-back as a cardiology rotation can be. At least the hours are decent, and he’s close to home. That means that we’ve been spending a good amount of time out at the river.

February boat rides might just be my new favorite thing. It’s been in the 70s and 80s for a couple of weeks now, and the sunshine has been on point. I’ve noticed I have a little bounce in my step lately, and that would be why. The warm sunny weather is so good for my soul, y’all.

So good, in fact, that I decided to do something a little bit out of my comfort zone. I decided to try out the top knot. This has been on my radar for awhile now, but I haven’t had the guts to try it until now. Let me just tell you, it was life-changing. It’s like the perfect hairstyle for moms.

I don’t have time to do my hair in the morning. If I take a shower that day, it’s at night, long after my kids have gone to sleep. My hair routine (or lack thereof) consists of me drying my hair, sleeping on it, and hoping for the best. Sometimes things work out, and I can add a couple of curls with a wand; and sometimes things don’t work out, and I throw it up into a mom bun. Or a hat. Whichever works.

But back to the top knot. It’s basically pulling your hair half-up and making a messy bun out of the ponytail. Before you attempt, make sure you have a surplus of bobby pins. I probably used like ten. FYI, this was done on day three of dry-shampooing my wavy mermaid hair. I think it turned out pretty cute! And I’m going to make this my go-to on days where I’m feeling sassy. It at least makes me look like I’m trying, right??
