Y’all. Why does Alabama have to play Clemson for the national championship? AGAIN. For those of you that don’t know how deliciously awkward this is for me, let me just put this out there again. I went to school at Clemson. Graduated with my B.S. in Biological Sciences (#nerd). But my parents raised me to be an Alabama fan. That probably contributes to some of the crazy– I’m sure I’ve got some kind of a complex.
I loved my time at Clemson. But I loved my childhood and going to Alabama games more. Even when they weren’t good, I just loved going to the games. This picture is circa 1996 (aren’t we cute??), I believe. That was four years out from Bama’s last national championship and 14 years before I would experience all the feels from being a champion again. Because in my family, we’re die-hards. And my husband? A former Gamecock fan that I managed to convert to a full-fledged Bama boy after 11 years of being in a relationship together.
So this time of year, when Alabama is sitting pretty at 14-0 and playing for its fifth natty in the last eight years, it’s business as usual for us. But it stresses me the heck out to live in South Carolina among all of these Clemson fans when they’ve suddenly become relevant over the past few years. It’s just something I’m not used to. If you had told me ten years ago that any team from my home state would ever be playing my beloved Tide for a championship, I would have laughed in your face. No way. But I guess that’s why you should never say never.
But on another note, how about the fact that I bought the same jacket for my husband for Christmas that Nick Saban is wearing tonight during the national championship? Momma did good! I hope that’s a sign from above that Bama’s going to pull this one out, and I’ll get to don my crimson and white for the next 365 days as a champion. Roll tide, y’all!
And for your enjoyment, here are some gems that I dug up from the archives (a la college days). Back when I weighed 105 lbs even though I lived off of Cheez-its, cereal, pizza, and coca-cola. Sigh.
And you may be wondering who this beautiful thing is in the next few pictures. She is one of my besties for the resties from Clemmy. We used to live together and speak in British accents on the reg because we were totes kewl– I don’t know why I’m typing in abbrev.’s today… it just feels right. Anyway, she was basically Joanna Gaines before Joanna Gaines even knew she was Joanna Gaines. She was one of the ones that inspired me to start this little blog, and if you’re like me, and you love Pinterest and home decor, then you need to go check out her blog.
